Navan Mayor’s Happiness Project:
Following the discovery of an unconscious man in a car park in Navan, Co. Meath and the events surrounding this discovery including public involvement and concern, The Navan Mayor’s Happiness Project was born. The project was co-founded by local Navan resident Sinead C. Kavanagh and 2014-15 Navan Mayor Sinead Burke.
The project is about increasing social awareness and social responsibility throughout our town, starting conversations and opening up communications between all social and community groups and organisations. We would like to try to unite people in a way that shows care for others, acceptance of personal and social responsibility and improves the lives and well-being of everyone.
There are three strands to the Project which is hoped will be a perpetual one, supported by each incoming new Mayor of Navan. The first strand involves video virals which will be produced in conjunction with a community group and buddy media students from Maynooth University. The second strand follows a train of thought from Social Psychologist Maureen Gaffney and involves Comhairle na nÓg. The third and final element of the Project in one which will see every person in Navan town and surrounds be they visitor or resident, young or old, being able to be involved in spreading a little kindness, care and happiness. The ‘Cup of Human Kindness’ will see the coffee shops, tea rooms and cafés of Navan come together and make it easy to ‘show someone you care’.
